BROOKVILLE 50TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

- FIONA MAGENNIS

A family sports day will take place in Brookville to mark the 50th anniversary of the estate. The event will take place on Brookville Green on Sunday, August 6th from 3pm to 5pm. The day will include races, football events and special games for parents and children to do together.

The fun day for all the family has been organised by Jennifer Boylan, who grew up in Brookville and still lives in the estate with her son Charlie (2). ‘ There will be races, football events and special games for parents and children to do together,’ Jennifer told the Drogheda Independent.

‘ There will be plenty of prizes and giveaways too. We have a lot of shops and chemists involved, which is fantastic and I’ve had posters made up to let people know it’s on.’

She said there is great enthusiasm in the estate for the celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of the estate. ‘ We have about 50 children signed up for it so far. It’s going to be crazy and wild but good fun.’ There will also be lots of competitions on the day with prizes for the King and Queen of Brookville, Glamourous Granny, Fabulous Grandpa and Bonny Baby competitions. Jennifer grew up in the estate and revealed her parents moved in to Brookville 36 years ago. ‘ They’ve been here for over 30 years but I have neighbours that have been here for 47 years which is amazing. Everyone is very excited about the day, it’s all coming together. The children’s games will cater for all ages, from 2 to 13. Footballer Sean Thornton will also be in attendance on the day as the star guest and he plans to teach the kids some skills and do a penalty shootout with medals and trophies for all the children taking part.

There will also be Barbara’s ice-cream truck providing refreshments on the day.
