Rathbrist House on market for €1.3m

-

ONE of Tallanstown’s landmark properties, Rathbrist House, is for sale with a pricetag of €1.3 million.

For sale through Savills, the house sits on 18.5 acres of land and extends to an impressive 6,125 square feet.

Situated 1km outside of Tallanstown village, Rathbrist House is described as an ‘ elegant Italianate gentleman’s residence’.

The house is presented in excellent condition with many original features including highly ornate decorative corniced ceilings and large, intricate centre roses as well as recessed sash window and tall ceilings which emphasise the sense of space.

The house, which gained noteriety in the 1980s when a local garda sergeant was murdered there, is approached by a sweeping avenue which travels through mature woodland before opening to the lawned gardens which frame the house. There is also a second avenue which leads to the stable yard and farm buildings.

The basement of the house boasts extra accommodation with a 1-2 bedroom self-contained apartment and further storage.

The basement has its own door access to the side of the house and it is ideal for staff or visiting family accommodation.

Outside, there are extensive stone yard buildings with their own access from the road. The stable yard is a charming stone courtyard which houses 18 stables, tack room, feed room and lofts above.

Other stone buildings include a two storey building which was thought to be used as a manager’s house, stone cut coach houses and to the rear a large barn which was converted into a sand arena. The property sits on an elevated site enveloped by mature woodland and beautifully landscaped gardens and shrubberies.

To the side of the house there is a tarmac tennis court and a walkway through the Japanese garden leads to the stable yard.
