Gardaí in Drogheda are investigat­ing the theft of a car which was later found burned out in the Rathmullen Park estate.

The incident happened overnight sometime between 10.30pm on Saturday, July 22nd and 10am on Sunday, July 23rd on the Donore Road.

The house was entered overnight and the keys to to car were stolen. The thieves then made off in the car, a grey Mazda 3 hatchback.

The car was subsequent­ly found burned out at around 1am on Monday morning in the Rathmullen Park estate.

In a separate incident, a car was stlen from a house in the Rivercourt estate on the Rathmullen Road overnight between 9pm on Tuesday, July 18th and 8am the following morning, July 19th.

The vehicle in question was parked outside a house in Rivercourt. The house itself was broken into and the thieves took the keys to a car, an 04 D registered grey Mercedes Benz, from the property as well as a wallet. The car was stolen from outside the house but was subsequent­ly located at 7pm on July 19th in the Balbriggan area.

Gardaí were involved in a small chase with the vehicle, and five people travelling in it were arrested.
