Geraghty’s speed and control worth spot on Meath team
May 1960: An unimpressive Duleek side registered a well-merited 15 points victory over a very feeble Skryne combination in a Junior Football Championship tie at Navan on Sunday.
Only redeeming feature of an otherwise featureless engagement was the brilliant display of Eugene Geraghty in the Duleek attack. He was the only forward on view to give a good account of himself. His speed and ball control were perfect and he was the architect of the downfall of the Skryne defence. It will not come as a surprise if he gets a trial in the very near future for inter-county honours.
Outstanding for the winners were D. Geraghty, B. Lenehan, V. Moore, M. Healy and M. Murray, while the pick of the losing side were E. Swan, J. Fox, A. Mulvany and J. Swan.
The ceremony was presided over by Group Leader, Mr. Pat Collins and the boys were invested by Cub Leaders Mrs.Kitty Cahill, Mr. Ken Lougheed and Mr. George Murray. Special guests on the occasion were Rev. J. Nelson and Mr. Ambrose Duffy, Assistant Commissioner, Oriel District. Adult Leaders of the local Guide and Brownie Packs also attended.
