SLANE COMMUNITY SAYS GOODBYE TO FR JOE DEEGAN

-

A HUGE crowd turned out on Friday evening last in the grounds of Slane NS to say farewell to Fr Joe Deegan who departs for a year in China shortly.

When he returns, he will be taking up a role in a new parish.

He has been more than a decade in Slane and has left a lasting impression on the community as the reception on Friday showed.

A number of people spoke movingly of his role in the community in that time and wished him well in his new vocation in China.

He is a huge cycling fan and enjoyed regular spins with the Slane club.

Fr Joe said he would miss the Slane area and its historic and natural beauty and the people who form such a close knit community locally.
