Weddingdressinto Christeninggown

- Fiona MAGENNIS

CATHERINE Wallace from Drumcar was determined her stunning designer wedding dress wouldn’t languish in the wardrobe for decades after he wedding day never to be worn again.

As soon as she purchased the dress Catherine knew she wanted to reuse the beautiful gown - to dress her future children at their baptism.

‘When I got my dress it was specially made for me, I got a top from one and a bottom from another so I didnt’ see it until a few weeks before the wedding but I was absolutely delighted with it and knew I wanted to do something with it after the wedding.’

And the local woman did exactly that, transforming the beautiful Edel Tuite-designed dress into a very special Christening outfit.

‘I always said I spent so much money on the dress I wasn’t going to leave it in the press,’ explained Catherine.

Catherine married husband Richard, from Kilkerley, in Dillonstown Church in April 2014 and celebrated with a reception afterwards in Cabra Castle.

When the couple welcomed their first child on Mother’s Day this year, March 26th 2017 Catherine knew exactly what she wanted little April to wear on her christening day.

‘I always knew from day one that’s what I was going to do when it came to getting a Christening gown,’ said Catherine.

‘It was Edel who said she’d design it the same as the dress itself. I took the train off it and she used that to make it into a christening robe.’

Catherine said she was absolutely thrilled with the results and knows it will be something special to tell April when she’s bigger that she was christened in the same dress that her Mum wore on her wedding day.

And Catherine isn’t finished yet as she plans to reuse her beautiful bespoke gown once again in years to come.

I still have the top half of the dress for, as Edel said herself please god, if I want to make it into a Communion dress.

‘It was a lovely idea and I’m so glad I did it, especially when it was very similar to the dress. It’ll be lovely for her as well when she’s bigger. I’m delighted I did it.’
