Super Saints march to league glory

-

A KEENLY contested Senior Camogie League final took place last Thursday evening in Pairc Fechin between St Kevins and Mattock Rangers.

The exciting decider was played in glorious sunshine in the first half but the second half took place in a torrential downpour which lasted for most of the half.

St Kevin’s got off to a dream start, getting a goal within two minutes, but Mattock fought back to get within a score at half time to make it St Kevins 2-3 Mattock 1-3.

The second half saw St Kevins demonstrate their skill and talent stretching their lead in purely awful torrential rain which impacted both teams equally. In the end, St Kevins ended up deserved victors with the final score St Kevins 6-5 Mattock 1-3. Both teams are to be congratulated on their preparation, and Mattock being a very young team, can only go from strength to strength.

Lorraine Young, Chairperson of the Camogie County Board thanked St Fechins for making their grounds available and for the excellent condition of the pitch and officials from St Annes Camogie club who stewarded the event. She thanked both sides for the very entertaining match and all teams who took part in the league. She then presented the league cup to Aoife Gregory, captain St Kevin’s

On behalf of St Kevins, captain Aoife Gregory accepted the league cup and also thanked Mattock for the excellent and hard fought match as well as St Kevins management, mentors and supporters.

The championship has now started and no doubt we will see equally entertaining matches across the county.
