MANNAN CASTLE

CONGRATULATIONS to Anthony Downey who mastered the blustery conditions over the weekend to win Lady Captain Esther’s prize to the gentlemen. Anthony won with 38 points just beating Barry Byrne on a count back with Conor Farrelly a point further behind.

Our Super Thursday Open was won this week by John Minnock with 41 points, second was Gerard Corbally with 40 points and John McGinnity was third with 36 points on a countback. John Minnock’s win this week has pushed him in to 2nd place in the Super Thursday Standings. After week 6, Roger McCullough is still in top position with 52pts. At the moment the top 10 are Roger McCullough, Shane Corr, John Minnock, Barry Conroy, Mark Lambe, Shane Corr, Michael Gallagher, Val Donoghue, Oisin Conroy and Patsy Hoey, but have they done enough to stay there?!? Or can you push them out? The top 20 scorers every week get points, only those above the cut line (Top 20) after Week 13 will make the playoff for a chance to win a seat on our our golf trip to Portugal. Only 7 more weeks to go! Have you played in our Super Thursday Open?

Unfortunately, it was bad news from Kilkeel as our Barton Shield team lost in their match against reigning champions Warrenpoint. We wish them the best of luck as they continue to defend their crown.

A big thanks to everyone who was involved in the Junior Summer Camp this year especially Sheila Boylan, our PGA Professional Kevin McGivern & Shane Donohue and all the volunteers whether they helped for one day or every day. The future of golf in Mannan Castle is secure because according to our volunteers, there were several very talented young golfers in our camp last week. For those of you who missed the camp the next Junior Camp will start Tuesday 22nd August, contact Sheila at (086) 414 1961, but don’t delay as it’s filling up fast.

There were some unfortunate delays in finishing last year’s Club Mixed Fourball Final Matchplay. But thankfully we finally have a result. The final was played midJune and decided on the 19th hole where Jimmy McMahon and Mary White beat Micheal O’Rourke and Rita O’Loughlin.

Blackrock man Denis Murphy play is played out of his shoes this week, bringing in a fantastic score of 26 points on 10 holes in the Seniors last Tuesday. Michael Johnston was in second place with 24 points.
