A GOOD WALK

- The Category 2 winner in the Dundalk President’s Prize, Brendan Keane, with Noel McGuinness.

Wednesday was a glorious day to play golf on the sun soaked fairways of Mannan Castle, but it was the combo of Siobhan Hand and Rose O’Reilly who shone brightest, beating the duo of Ann Fleming and Catherine Harmon on the back nine count back after both teams finished on 43 points. Thanks to Doran Motors Ltd. Clonseady, Magheracloone, Carrickmacross for sponsoring this competition. www.carrickmacross. doranmotors.ie

The winning team from last Friday’s Captain’s Charity Scramble was Oliver Fox, Gerry Cumiskey, Martin Feeney and Noel Rooney scoring 56.7 nett. Second place went to Eddie Rouiller, Gill Rouiller, John Rouiller and Marie Conlon with 59.5 nett. On behalf of Captain Thomas and Lady Captain Esther we wish to thank everyone who participated and the real winners in the end were the charities, Carrick Cancer and Carrickmacross Alzheimer’s Day Centre both received €467.50.

PUNTER’S SOCIETY

THE Society held its postponed fifth outing of the year at Knightbrook Golf Club on Wednesday 19th July. For a change the weather was overcast and very humid with drizzling rain for the front nine, but notably much better for the back nine.

Thankfully the postponement didn’t reduce the average size of the field and 18 players took to the course for the outing.

In category one the winner on the day with a score of 37 points was Chris Murden. Iin second place was Joe Carroll on 33 points, with Eamonn O’Farrell 32 points.

In category two there was a new name in the winners enclosure with newcomer Martin Gill taking first place on a score of 28 points after a countback. In second place was Tony Casey also on 28 points with Paul Curran third on 27 points.

As usual we would like to thank Paul Curran for the safe transport to and from the venue and Ronan Hoey for the BBQ later in the evening.

The prizes were presented later in The Punters Bar. The next outing is the postponed Captain Andrew Lynch prize in Balbriggan Golf Club on Wednesday 16th August. Look forward to seeing as many members there as possible. Fore!
