- Fiona MAGENNIS

A family home in Meadowview was extensively damaged and a number of nearby houses had to be evacuated after an oil tank at the rear of the property caught fire on Friday night.

Drogheda Fire Brigade were called to the scene shortly after 10pm when the tanker caught light and the fire quickly spread.

The main house involved suffered extensive damage as a result of the blaze and three adjoining houses on either side of the property were also damaged.

Two units of the fire brigade were in attendance and spent a number of hours at the scene dealing with the blaze and bringing it under control.

A spokesperson confirmed there was extensive structural damage to the property and said the attics of two adjoining houses were also damaged.

He said thankfully everyone in the affected houses made it out safely and a number of other homes closeby were evaculated as a precautionary measure.

An ambulance also attended the scene and administered medical assistance but no one was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for any further treatment.

Fire Brigade personnel spent four hours dealing with the blaze at the house and neighbouring properties.

One crew from Drogheda Fire Brigade returned to the scene on Saturday morning to dampen down a number of items that had been taken from the house.
