Ger returns to boost Gaels

DUNDALK GAELS KILKERLEY EMMETS 0-14 1-7

DUNDALK Gaels moved into the top four in Division 1 on Wednesday night as victory over Kilkerley - combined with defeats for neighbours Clan na Gael and Sean O’Mahony’s - really shook things up in the top half of the table.

The Ramparts side based their victory on a strong first-half display that saw them go in with a six-point advantage. Although Kilkerley fought back in the second period they fell short in their attempts to take something from the game and as a result remain at the foot of the table.

The early stages of the game proved to be very evenly balanced, with the returning Gerard McSorley twice putting his side ahead, only to see Tadgh McEneaney and Shane Lennon reply on each occasion.

However, the home side made the decisive move at that stage and points followed from Eanna McArdle (3), McSorley (2), Derek Crilly and Oisin Murray to put their side 0-9 to 0-2 in front.

Just before the break McEneaney pulled one back for the visitors, but they were facing an uphill task going into the second period.

However, a goal from Shane Lennon just after the restart gave Kilkerley real hope and when Rian Hand and Lennon pointed in response to a McSorley effort, the gap was down to 0-10 to 1-5.

Any hopes of completing the comeback suffered a setback when Ciaran Bellew picked up a second yellow card. Despite this, they brought the gap back to just two points again thanks to two efforts from McEneaney, but late scores from David Moloney and McSorley settled the issue in favour of the Gaels. DUNDALK GAELS: Micheal Lambert; Conor Morgan, Jamie Faulkner, David McComish; Sean Murray, Derek Crilly 0-2, Oisin Murray; Gerard Fee, David Maloney 0-1; Emmet Lindsey, Barry Watters, Eamon Kenny; Eanna McArdle 0-4 (3f), Gerard McSorley 0-7 (6f), Chris Sweeney.

KILKERLEY EMMETS: Darren Meehan; James Bellew, Alan McGeough, Killian Kampes; Cormac Bellew, Shaun McElroy, Rian Hand 0-1; Ciaran Bellew, Adam Shields; Connor Kirk, Conal McEneaney, Dan McKeown; Tadhg McEneaney 0-4, Shane Lennon 1-2, Ciaran Clarke. Sub: James Shields for C Kirk.
