Rangers remain on course for title glory

GLYDE RANGERS LANNLEIRE 2-9 0-7

GLYDE Rangers remain on course for the Division 3 League title and an immediate return to the second tier after overcoming Lannleire at Pairc Ui Mhuiri on Wednesday evening.

With just three games remaining, the Tallanstown side are level on points with Roche Emmets, but crucially they still have a game in hand and know that if they win their remaining games they will be crowned champions.

The early moments of the game underlined Glyde’s hunger to complete the job as they started like a train and had the ball in the net inside a minute through Barry Sharkey.

Lannleire managed to gain a foothold in the contest and the sides shared the next 10 points.

However, the men from Dunleer were dealt another severe blow when Niall Sharkey added a second goal on the stroke of half time to earn Glyde a commanding 2-5 to 0-5 lead at the break.

There never looked to be a way back for the home side in a low-scoring second half as Glyde kicked four points in reply to two Colin Murphy frees for Lannleire.

Both sides were guilty of some wasteful shooting over the hour, with Lannleire hitting 13 wides and Glyde clocking up 11.

But the win was all that mattered for Glyde and if they can overcome third-placed St Kevin’s in their next game on Saturday week, they will be hot favourites for league glory and automatic promotion.
