NA PIARSAIGH DUNDALK YI 1-14 1-11

NA Piarsaigh picked up their first win of the Division 2 season when they made the short trip to take on local rivals Young Irelands on Wednesday night.

A late goal from Eamon McAuley proved the difference between the teams as the Rock Road side recorded what could prove to be a crucial win come the end of the campaign.

The result means that Na Piarsaigh have not only joined the Irelanders on two points at the bottom of the table but, crucially, they now have the edge in terms of head-to-head.

The importance of the match to both teams was obvious from the start of what proved to be a very tight and cagey encounter. It was no surprise that the sides couldn’t be separated at the break as they went in level at five points apiece.

The Young Irelands gained the initiative early in the second half when Dean Maguire got in for the first goal of the game. However, points from David Boyle and Mark Larkin helped keep Na Piarsaigh on terms.

With just three minutes on the clock, McAuley struck the all-important goal and his side held out in a tense finish.
