SENESCHALSTOWN BLACKHALL GAELS 3-16 2-12

THERE was no shortage of excitement, scores and talking points as Damien Sheridan made a winning return as Seneschalstown manager for this SFC clash at Dunshaughlin.

The former Keegan Cup winning boss was back patrolling the sideline after previous manager David Hosie stepped aside a couple of weeks back.

Both sides finished with 14 following the dismissals of Seneschalstown’s Conor Cowley and Blackhall’s Paddy Brady after an off-the-ball incident in the second quarter.

All five goals arrived in the second half, with the clincher coming six minutes into added time from Seneschalstown sub Robbie Wogan. That goal came in response to a similar effort from Blackhall sub Robbie McGuinness moments earlier, a score that left just three points between the sides.

Bryan Clarke, with his eighth point, pointed a free after Wogan’s goal to leave the Beauparc men seven clear at the end.

The teams were level four times in the opening quarter before a second spurt from Seneschalstown left them 0-10 to 0-6 at the break. That lead stretched to 1-11 to 0-7 by the 40th minute after Joe Sheridan had blasted home the first goal.

However Blackhall showed they were going to be no pushover and had hit back to be on level terms at 1-11 each by the 52nd minute.

Seneschalstown snatched the lead back quickly with another goal from Sheridan and three points courtesy of Clarke left it 2-14 to 1-11. The Yellow Furze outfit still led by six entering added time and while they were forced to endure some anxious moments before the finish they fully deserved their win. SENESCHALSTOWN: David Lyons; Conor Cowley, Cormac Noonan, Brian Maguire; Niall Groome, Adam Carey, David Matthews; John Smith, Damien Sheridan; Cathal Finnegan 0-4 (2f), Niall McCabe, Gary Conlon; Sean Noonan 0-1, Joe Sheridan 2-2, Bryan Clarke 0-8 (4f). Sub: Robert Wogan 1-1 for Matthews.
