More than €8k raised in Trad for Sudan
THE recent Trad for South Sudan concert which took place in the Droichead Arts Centre recently raised a fantastic €8,665.41.
The organisers of the event, which took place on June 16th, have extended their thanks to everyone who contributed to the concert in anyway.
The concert itself and the raffle which took place collected over €3,000 and all musicians and singers gave of their time free of charge for the cause.
The balance of the monies raised came in donations since the date of the concert or were contributed by those who could not attend.
Musicians who performed included Pat and Stuart Carolan, The Savage Family from Termonfeckin, well-known folk group Reynardine - Gareth Brady, SJ McArdle, Kevin Branigan, Aideen Morrissey and Neil McAvinia; The McEvoy Family and The Sunday’s Gate Quartet.
The organisers also gave a special thanks to Mr John Rynne for his insightful talk about his experiences in South Sudan and to Collette Farrell and all the staff at the Droichead Arts Centre for their assistance.
After consulting with Mr Rynne on the matter, the organisers have divided the monies equally between Concern and GOAL who are both working on the ground in South Sudan and have confirmed that the monies contributed will go specifically to projects in that country.
