Fears for the future use of the Abbey car park

-

SENATOR Ged Nash has said he is fearful for the future of the car park at the back of the Abbey Shopping Centre.

He said, “I have been contacted by local business owners who have expressed concerns that the car park may be ring-fenced for the exclusive use of the Courts Service and service users only.

“It would be ludicrous if this were to happen. This could potentially lead to a scenario whereby the car park would be used only on sitting days and empty for the rest of the week. Car parking spaces available to everyone are essential for businesses in the area.

“I have been in contact with the OPW in this regard and I have been advised that their officials are currently in talks with the Council ‘with a view to determining the future use of this area.’”

“The Council must make it clear – as I have done – that these spaces must be brought into use for everyone, and that these spaces cannot be just for the exclusive use of Courts Service users.”
