THE family of a man who sadly drowned in the River Foyle have shown their appreciation for the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service (BFRRS) by presenting them with a cheque for £3,500.

Jack Glenn (23) drowned in February this year but his body was not found for a further eight weeks.

During this time, his family faced an arduous wait as various water crews, including the BFRRS searched the river.

Jack’s body was eventually found by the BFRRS and to show their appreciation for the help given to them by the Drogheda Rescue Service, the family visited Drogheda recently to present the organisation with a cheque for £3,500 and a new boat. During their visit to the town, the family thanked the local organisation for their help in getting Jack back.

They also extended their thanks to Mayor of Drogheda, Pio Smith for welcoming them to Drogheda.

Meanwhile, the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service (BFRRS) were called out to an incident at 6pm on Saturday, July 29th.

The emergency pagers were activated following reports of a man on the river side of the railings on the Bridge of Peace in town. On arrival at the scene the crew observed a man on the river side attempting to enter the water.

While this was happening an inshort boat was launched and en route to the scene. With the combined efforts of Drogheda gardaí and members of the BFRRS the man was successfully removed from the railings and prevented from entering the water.
