NOTHING like seeing how a job should be done. And Hamilton Accies know the formula.

I visited the club, just outside Glasgow, recently and what a set up they have. If you are talking about a community stadium, then this is it.

The club has been running since 1874 and caters for a local population of about 45,000.

Gates are not massive, but they play in the highest level in Scottish football. So how do they make it work?

The stadium is neat, two stands and a capacity for just over 6,000.

Players coming up through the youth system is key and the stadium itself, New Douglas Park, features an all weather surface and the buildings around it house a creche, amongst other attractions. Of course there’s a big car park too.

The plans for Drogheda’s new stadium are bubbling along in the background and hopefully when it does come to fruition, they can develop something like Hamilton and make it a community facility as well as a football ground.
