Flower arranging and its 55 year history in the town

-

MY THANKS to those that spotted our piece on the Drogheda and District Floral Arrangement Society and its formation which was of course 55 years ago, instead of 65.

They were a very busy lot and just over 50 years ago, I spotted a piece on their entry to the Floral Festival “Springtime in Ireland.” at the Mansion House, all the preparations done at Rokeby Hall.

Drogheda were commended and came sixth.

The Drogheda team consisted of Mrs. Eithne Byrne, Mrs. Aileen Kieran, Mrs. Joan Kieran (chair), Mrs. Babs Velzeboer and Mrs. Senta Woods.

The Garden side of the Drogheda Society was represented at the R.H.S.I. Spring Show (held simultaneously) by Mrs. Betty Nicholson, who won four 1st, three 2nd, and one 3rd prize for potted primulas, cut flowers and shrubs.

A wonderful group that brought many accolades to the town back then.
