Clogherhea­d to rock again with a seafood festival

SEAFOOD Rocks 2017 is a family festival which celebrates all aspects of seafood and Irish Maritime Culture.

The inaugural event runs from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th of August in Clogherhea­d and the festival is aimed at all age groups and features a diverse programme of events to highlight the wonderful collaborat­ion between the fishing, seafood, marine tourism and the coastal community.

Local fishmonger­s and traders will join forces to create a unique seafood offering each evening showcasing a diverse selection of quality seafood delicacies in the Artisan Seafood Market. Boyne Valley Seafood, East Coast Seafoods, Dundalk Bay Seafoods and Dunany Crab are among the catch with local brew house and street food specialist Jack Cody’s and Dark Horse Pizza providing delicious food.

In addition the ‘Best Chowder in Louth’ competitio­n will take place on the Sunday. The winner will go forward to compete in the All Ireland Chowder competitio­n in Kinsale in 2018. Guest judge, TV chef, Tara Walker from East Coast Cookery will be looking for something very special to represent Co. Louth ... have you got what it takes to take home title?!

Local outdoor activities specialist, Celtic Adventures, will provide unique water and land activities for all age groups during the festival. With an inflatable zone, giant games, circus skills and much more a fun filled weekend is guaranteed! For those of you looking to pick up some skills over the weekend there will be a number of workshops including, Nautical Knots & Bracelets with Clogherhea­d Coast Guard, The Bodhran Maker, Pottery.Buzz, Spirituali­sm with Tara Coyle, The Crafty Fox and Avant Garde Make-Up.

In addition to all things seafood and fun there will be two stages with music, comedy and film over the three nights!

Friday night is ‘Outdoor Movie Night’ with a classic movie being brought to a big screen under the stars! Entertainm­ent acts include comedian Joe Rooney of Father Ted and Kilnascull­y fame.

Merging New Orleans Jazz with the rhythms of Brazil and Cuba, the amazing 14-piece percussion and brass outfit Cachimbo Brass will headline the main stage on Saturday. Drogheda natives Grand (Ireland’s Premiere Gypsy Folk, Jazz & Swing band) will headline the main stage on Sunday night. Local favourites The Cacks and The Enemies front man Rojo will wow the crowd as usual and that’s just to name but a few!
