Kilsaran bottle banks are full to overflowing - but who cares?

-

Dear Sir,

THE bottle bank at Kilsaran is full to overflowing.

Green, brown and clear glass bottles including cans, not all drinking cans, are spilling out often landing on bags of rubbish left there by undiscerning members of the public who care not for the hazard this might cause for other unsuspecting members of the public who use these bottle banks with respect including children who play in the area.

Why are these bottle banks not being emptied on a more regular basis?.

Is there any strategy in place which can predetermine when these banks might reach the level when the bottles spill over and out?.

This has been a recurring source of concern at this bottle bank for some time and the issue has been raised with Louth County Council in the past.

Is it good enough that the last time this bottle bank was emptied was July 14 last, in the middle of the tourist season and school holidays when more people are bound to be using them on a more regular basis.

Bottle banks can function satisfactorily if all members of the public who use these banks do so in a responsible manner, including those in authority who are responsible for emptying the green, brown and clear bottle and drinking cans bank. Bottle banks are for our benefit. Lets respect that!

Our image as a nation is reflected in the actions of our citizens, including those in authority who should be pointing the way.

Yours, Bernadette Martin, Port, Togher, Drogheda, Co Louth.
