Come along to our Open Day this Sunday

-

DROGHEDA Men’s Shed will hold an open day at their premises on the Donore Road on Sunday, August 13th from 10am to 5pm. The open day will showcase some of the amazing products created by the local group, with everything from bespoke dollhouses to garden furniture on display.

The Drogheda group has gone from strength to strength since it started back in 2012 and now has a membership of 80 creating a wide range of products and enjoying a variety of courses on offer as well as numerous social outings throughout the year. ‘ We are inviting people to come along, have a look at our premises and see what we do,’ said Liam Reynolds from Drogheda Men’s Shed. ‘ We have lots of stuff on display and it’s a great opportunity for the community to see what we do.’

He said the open day is also an ideal opportunity for any men who might be interested in joining to come along and see for themselves what the group are all about. ‘Some people have a misinterpretation of what Men’s Sheds is all about,’ said Liam. ‘ They think it’s only about work which it’s not. The social aspect is a very important part of it too. Men can come in just to talk, they may not get involved in the work or the workshops.

We have members who have come along to combat loneliness, they come along to chat and socialise with peers in a comfortable and safe environment. That’s an important side of the Men’s Sheds, the camaraderie and the friendship. Drogheda Men’s Shed is open to all men over the age of 45 and is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm. The fantastic woodwork created by members is one of the main sources of income for the group and the public are invited to come along on the open day and see examples of this for themselves. The pieces, which include the very popular garden benches and picnic tables, are available to purchase from the craft shop adjacent to the Men’s Shed workshop. Recent classes run at the Shed include a computer class and a very successful cookery course with the added bonus of tasting the food afterwards! The group also run a number of outings throughout the year and most recently they enjoyed a day out to Kilmainham Jail followed by lunch in the Coachman’s Inn.
