GLEN Emmets take on Naomh Malachi in the Anglo Printers JFC quarter-final this Saturday at 5.30pm in Páirc Séamus Mhic hEochaidh in Haggardsto­wn. All support is welcome!

Numbers drawn in last week’s lotto for a jackpot of €10,000 were 6, 10, 13, 28, and in the second draw for €1,000 the numbers were 1, 10, 11, 12. The lucky dip winners of €25 were Mary Grimes, Rachel Field, Craig Usher and Jackie Mooney and this week’s jackpots stand at €10,000 and €1,100. The draws take place every Tuesday night in the Glen Emmets clubrooms.

Tickets are available from the Mace, from the Lotto hut at the Mace from 12 to 6pm every Saturday and any committee member. We are asking people if they can sell tickets to family, friends and work colleagues. If you think you could sell tickets, please contact Jack Carolan on 087-2316722.

Our new signage is currently going up at Cusack Park. Well done to the Mitchel’s first team on a comprehens­ive win on Tuesday last against Stabannon in the Division 6 League. Hard luck to the Louth Minor team, including Mitchel’s John Gallagher, and team management when they exited the championsh­ip at the All-Ireland quarter-final stage against reigning champions Kerry in Portlaoise last Saturday. Well done on a brilliant campaign and it shows great progress within the county.

With the John Mitchel’s 6K Run/Walk coming up on August 27th, Mauretta has started special training for this. This year we want everyone to be able to participat­e and so families from eight years and up to 18 years are free of charge, with adults €3 per session. Training will be on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7pm.

Registrati­on is now open for the run by following the link on the Mitchels Facebook Page. The Irish Cancer Society and Club will jointly benefit from this event, so please support it!

The John Mitchel’s Juvenile Committee are also hosting a Family Fun Day the same day, so there will be plenty of fun for the whole family to enjoy - more details on this soon!

John Mitchel’s were honoured recently to be selected as winners in the new Leinster GAA Club Bua Awards. This is a ‘ new club accreditat­ion and health check initiative’ and Mitchel’s were delighted to have been chosen as we are working very hard under the guidance of our chairman James Sweeney and Committee to progress the club both off and on the field. We have been striving to develop our coaching, PR and all aspects of club activities, with further news to come shortly on plans to develop our club facilities.

The club received the new Beko ‘Club Bua’ award at halftime during the Leinster Senior Football Championsh­ip Final at Croke Park.

A commemorat­ive plaque was presented to Mitchel’s long-serving committee member James Halpenny and club PRO Frieda Halpenny on the Croke Park pitch by Leinster Council chairman Jim Bolger and Shane Kelly, Head of Sales and Marketing at Beko. Also present on the day were Juvenile Mentors Gerry Maguire, Garrett Commins and Tommy Durnin. The club will also receive €1,500 of free playing equipment from O’Neill’s.

KILKERLEY EMMETS

NUMBERS drawn in last week’s lotto were 5, 12, 24, 28 and the five winners of €20 each were James Watters and Jack Cumiskey (both c/o Kennedys Bar), Joe and Sheila McArdle (c/o K McEnteggar­t), Adrian Flynn (c/o R Mulholland) and Roisin and Robert Carolan (c/o G McElroy).

The jackpot this evening (Tuesday) stands at €6,700 and as this is the last week for 2017, if the pot is not won it will carry over to February 2018.

The club very much appreciate­s the continued support for this vital annual fundraiser that goes towards the weekly running costs of the club, so thanks all those who contribute­d over the years and all the promoters.

The Annual Golf Classic takes place this Friday in Mannan Castle.

The U-13s are away on Wednesday to St Bride’s at 7.30pm. Kilkerley/Naomh Malachi U-14s play at home to O’Connell’s/Stabannon/Mitchel’s in the championsh­ip on Thursday August 17th at 7.30pm. The U-16 team play at home to Na Piarsaigh in the championsh­ip on Monday next at 7.30pm.

The Junior 2A Championsh­ip is on this evening (Tuesday) at 7.30pm when we are at home to Sean O’Mahony’s. The senior championsh­ip relegation play-off is on Saturday August 19th in Stabannon against O Raghallaig­h’s.

MILLMOUNT HANDBALL

THE club will hold a committee meeting this Friday at 8pm in Coke community hall and all delegates and players are requested to attend.

Our 60x30 softball training for adults continues at Kingscourt Handball Club every Monday and Thursday at 7pm until further notice.

Club members and players wishing to purchase handballs, gloves, eyeguards etc for their training can do so by contacting our club secretary.

Our 40x20 handball training for juvenile boys and girls will commence at Gormanston College sports complex on Tuesday 20th September and will continue every Tuesday until further notice.

Our club fund-raising clothing appeal is going very well. If you have any unwanted clothes, handbags, shoes, belts etc, please bring them along to Coke hall or contact Maria on 0879821594 to arrange for collection.

Our juvenile under-9 boys and girls ‘Fundamenta­l Handball’ skills competitio­n will take place in two weeks’ time.

The club would like to thank Richie Barron from Templeludi­gan Handball Club in Wexford for the wonderful hospitalit­y displayed to all players and supporters during the 60x30 Nationals held in Wexford recently, and also for officiatin­g the numerous number of games played on the day.

Our juvenile handball coaching continues every Friday from 6.30 to 8pm for boys and girls. The cost is €2 each. Newcomers are welcome and can register at reception. Come along, enjoy the fun and learn the skills of handball.

NAOMH MALACHI

THE seniors take on the favourites, Glen Emmets, on Saturday in Haggardsto­wn in the Junior Football Championsh­ip. Throw-in is at 5.30pm.

A big thank-you to Gerard McMonagle and Aaron Kieran (Superbites and Cross Square Hotel) who have sponsored our underage training gear. The club are really appreciati­ve of their contributi­on. Upwards of 60 children are now kitted out and look very impressive in their new gear at all our underage blitzes - from nursery right up to minor level. Please support those that support us.

There will be a Family Fun Day towards the end of August - details over the coming weeks.

A Barn Dance will also take place towards the end of September - further details in due course.

The club are planning a Mals2Mals cycle from Courtbane to St Malachys (Castletown Geoghan, Co Westmeath) on Sunday October 29th. If you would like to assist in any way, please contact Joey Hoey.

Cúl Camps are taking place from Monday to Friday of next week in Courtbane. As it’s the first year of our Cúl Camps, we are making a big effort to get people signed up. We would appreciate if you could encourage all our Mini Mals to attend, while kids from other clubs are also welcome.

Our club shop section has been added to the O’Neill’s website where you can purchase club merchandis­e. A portion of the revenue from these sales will go back into the club.

NEWTOWN BLUES

Well done to the Louth U-16 boys who won the Gerry Reilly shield. Dáire Nally was the Blues representa­tive on this team and has captained the team in previous matches, contributi­ng greatly to their success. He was unavailabl­e for this match but would have been willing his team to victory. It was a great achievemen­t for all involved.

Hard luck to our ladies senior team who lost their first championsh­ip game against Cooley on Sunday. There were some great football played by Orlaith Nugent, Laura Collins, Roisin Crowe, Becky Mc Allister and Maura Sullivan to name a few.

BINGO will continue in the clubrooms this Wednesday 9th August at 8.00pm, jackpot €4,600 in 48 numbers.

The lotto returns on Tuesday 22nd August, with a tasty jackpot of €19,000.

ROCHE EMMETS

ROCHE Emmets hosted their family fun day on Sunday. Thank you to everyone who made the day the success it was, the volunteers and& helpers, the coaches and mentors. Thank you to Brian McArdle for working quietly in the background, taking the organisati­on of the day in hand and ensuring a well run enjoyable day was had by all.

Cupan Tae - Today (Tuesday) from 10am to noon. Come along and bring your friends and neighbours for a catch-up over a cup of tea.

The new Roche Emmets Superstars camp for music and performanc­e is on from Wednesday to Friday of this week from 10am to noon. It’s for ages 6+ and costs €30, with all proceeds to the Marie Goretti Foundation.

Our annual flag day is on Saturday and volunteers are needed.
