The action hots up

FIVE clubs, including champions Simonstown, take 100% records into round three of the Meath Senior Championship this weekend.

Just four - Duleek-Bellewstown, St Colmcille’s, Blackhall Gaels and Skryne - will be seeking to pick up their first points of the campaign.

SFC

GROUP A Duleek-Bellewstown v Gaeil Colmcille, Walterstown, Sunday (1.30): Every match is a massive one for Duleek-Bellewstown as they go in search of points that will lift them out of the relegation zone. The Kells men have two points following their opening round win over Wolfe Tones. The east Meath side will need to improve greatly on the form shown in the last outing against Rathkenny if they are to get anything here.

Verdict: Gaeil Colmcille.

Rathkenny v Wolfe Tones, Pairc Tailteann, Sunday (3.30): A big local derby as Tones go in search of a first win following a draw against Ashbourne the last day. Rathkenny will provide tough opposition for any club in the county, but the loss of the injured Caolach Halligan could be significantly.

Verdict: Wolfe Tones

Summerhill v Donaghmore/ Ashbourne, Pairc Tailteann, Tuesday (7.30): Both teams are unbeaten, though Summerhill are the only team in the group with a 100% record. There will hardly be much between the sides at the end of this one.

GROUP B Seneschalstown v Simonstown, Castletown, Saturday (7.00): GROUP C Dunboyne v St Patrick’s, Duleek, Sunday (6.00): Much will depend on which side of the bed the Stamullen men get out of for this one. They were very impressive in the opening round win over Skryne and woeful against Ratoath.

Verdict: Dunboyne

Skryne v Na Fianna, Pairc Tailteann, Monday (7.30): Both are still seeking a first win, though Na Fianna have a point from their draw with Dunshaughlin. The Tara men are really struggling but could be boosted by the return of Donie Ryan.

Dunshaughlin v Ratoath, Ashbourne, Monday (7.30): Another local derby where Ratoath will be seeking to maintain their 100% record.

Verdict: Ratoath

IFC

Both have recorded one win from their two outings to date. Ballinabrackey were semi-finalists last year but don’t appear nearly as strong at present.

Verdict: Curraha

GROUP C

Syddan v Nobber, Drumconrath, Sunday (6.00): Syddan are badly in need of points after suffering successive defeats. Nobber have three points from their two outings and form indicates that they will strengthen their grip on a knockout spot.

JFC ‘A’

These sides have two wins from three outings in what is a very competitive group.

GROUP B

St Vincent’s v Moylagh, Bective, Monday (7.30): St Vincent’s need to win here if they are to entertain hopes of a knockout spot.
