Greenhills members try to make their points

-

GREENHILLS members are seeking crucial points at the stage of the Summer League Doubles and Jo Jo Moran leaped over her rivals into second place after a hard-fought draw last Thursday.

In the first game of the night Tony Lacken and Gertie Griffin clashed with Jimmy Flood and Anna Farrell and the latter started the game in a positive fashion and took full advantage of their opponents’s missed opportunities to go five up after fourth ends.

Tony and Gertie, who weren’t playing badly, cut the gap down to two shots, but Jimmy and Anna soon regained their composure and dominated the last two ends with some superb bowls to seal victory in a comfortable fashion.

The second game saw Alice Leonard and Claire Woods pitted against juvenile Megan Devin and Eugene McKenna and the ladies pair started brightly to go three up.

Megan and Eugene gradually got their act together and countered in the fourth end to even the score, only for their opponents to re-esablish the lead - two up after five ends.

However, Megan and Eugene set up a grandstand finish as they halved the deficit, and with Alice and Claire taking the wrong options it was Megan and Eugene who stole victory by two shots.

In the final match of the night Peter Woods and Val Haggins went three up after two ends against Josephine Moran and Tom Devin, only for the latter pair to find their rhythm and take a one-shot advantage after four ends.

After that it was a ding-dong battle between the two teams and in the end Tom and Josephine levelled the score in a tense finish.

The stand-out performers on the night were juvenile Megan Devin, Val Haggins, Anna Farrell and Josephine Moran.
