‘ Taking home the gold medal and world title again to Ireland in the under 90kg category for powerlifting, hit 125kg, 132kg, 135kg then went for the world record of 140kg and just missed it by an inch, personally I thought I had it but all in all so happy with the results today,’ Thomas said on his Facebook page.
‘So many to thank but big shout out to the family and friends and the family in Laoch Barbell, everyone for the support and well wishes, thank you from the bottom of my heart.’
Staff at Laoch Barbell, the private training facility that Thomas attends, offered their congratulations to Thomas on taking home gold at the games.
Tommy’s journey to the games began six years when he joined Aura and was at the Convention of Little People of Ireland in November 2011, when he took up powerlifting.
Since then he has never looked back, competing at the World Dwarf Games in Michigan just two years later. Back in June this year, members of the Irish Dwarf Games team travelled to Leinster House in a bid to seek Government funding.
The team members got the opportunity to highlight their proposals to senators. The group revealed they receive no funding towards the costs of competing in the games.
