Day Elizabeth Cummins from North Strand was knocked down

-

THE Drogheda Independent reported many instances of people being injured by traffic in the vicinity of the Gate down the years, including a 1931 accident.

A man and a little girl had a very narrow escape when Mrs. V. Gogarty, West Street, was driving her car under the Gate when Elizabeth Cummins, of the North Strand, aged five years, attempted to cross the road with the result that she was knocked down by the car, but was only slightly injured about the face and was able to go home after being medically treated.

The man who was very nearly involved in the occurence was Thomas Behan, of Mary Street, a painter who was working at Mr. Callan’s premises and had just descended from his ladder and removed it a few seconds before the car swerved on to the kerbing where it had been standing.
