Alzheimer’s to benefit from Drogheda lip sync battle
Read their lips! Everything is coming together for the introduction of Lip-syncing to the Drogheda scene this autumn.
The event was launched at the X-treme dance studios in Greenhills.
The competition itself will take place at the O’Raghallaighs GAA centre on October 14.
It is being organised as a fund-raiser for the Drogheda branch of the Alzheimer Society which is hoping to provide a new day care centre for the town.
Chief organiser, Gary Fagan, said there will be close to 40 competitors on the big night which promises an occasion of fun and laughter.
LipSyncing involves contestants miming the words of well-known songs, dressing up as their chosen artist and interpreting the music with their actions.
It will be a very competitive event, with those taking part representing rival pubs and clubs in the town.
Choreographer, Kym Keogh, was on hand last week to put the competitors through their paces and on the basis of what she saw to link the competitors with suitable songs.
Gary Fagan said ; ‘’ There is huge interest and enthusiasm for the event and we are confident it will be a big success for the Alzheimer cause’’.
Each contestant or group of contestants will aim to raise sponsorship of Eur150 from friends, supporters and work colleagues, and to sell a minimum of 20 tickets.
Alzheimer branch chairman, Noel Heeney, gave a run-down to the competitors on the society’s hopes for the day care project.
He said they were delighted to be associated with the event and thanked Mr Fagan and Ms CathyAnne Ward, who dealt with the entries, for their efforts.
