CúChulainn Archers hit the target at Stormont

-

MEMBERS of CúChulainn Archers achieved some great results after heading north to Stormont Castle to compete in the recent Northern Ireland Civil Service shoot.

The competition this time was a 1440 Round, where the archers shoot 36 arrows at various distances from 90 metres to 30 metres, and Éamonn Rogers won the Senior Male Compound category, John Dollard broke his PB for the distance and Brandon Dollard came first in his category.

And among the club’s lady members, Ann Marie Murray - in her first FITA event with a compound bow - came first in her category and broke the 1,000 milestone, while Michelle Williams achieved three PBs, broke 1,100 for the first time and also won the Recurve category.

Also competing that same weekend, but in Scotland, was James Moloney who came first in the Barebow category at the Border Archery Bowfest, with PBs on both days.

The weekend before, nine members of the club competed in various categories for points towards the All-Ireland Series Finals run by Archery Ireland, which takes place later this summer.

On a very blustery weekend, with heavy rain, the archers fought hard for the extra points needed for qualification, and with just one more leg to go, the pressure is on.

At present the standings are as follows: 2nd Rachael McComb, 3rd Brandon Dollard, 4th Adria Quinn, 6th Éamonn Rogers, 7th Christina O’Sullivan Bathe, 8th Deirdre Rogers, 9th Michelle Williams, 10th Ann Marie Murray, 11th Fiachra Judge, 12th John Dollard.

CúChulainn Archers meet in the Parish Centre, Hale Street, Ardee, and run beginner courses regularly throughout the year - all enquiries to cuchulainnarchers@ hotmail.com.

The fighter training programme begins today (Tuesday) and there will be a minimum of 14 bouts on the night, involving club members, past and present players and some ‘high-profile’ invitees from the local community.

Contestants will be trained by a fully licensed boxing coach, who is also providing the ring, lighting and judges.
