New Theatre Club at Droichead Arts Centre starts in Sept

-

THE Droichead Arts Centre has opened a new Theatre Club and it kicks off at the start of September.

The idea was sparked by initiatives seen by Droichead Arts Centre Director Collette Farrell in the UK.

‘Similar to a book club, where you read and then discuss a book, it’s about bringing a group of people together to see a play, and then allowing them the opportunity to talk about it, to express their opinions, their likes and dislikes,’ explained Collette.

‘We might look at theme and performances, but crucially, it is about what you thought about the play. Love it or hate it, moments that moved you, characters that unsettled you, it’s about you.’

The theatre club is limited to 50 people and you don’t need any particular skills to join.

‘If this is your first play, your 50th play, it doesn’t matter, you just need to bring yourself along and enjoy! So have your say, debate, discuss, and be heard.’

It costs just €66 to join and includes six shows. The line up for the Theatre Club includes To Hell In a Handbag - The Secret Lives of Canon Chasuble and Miss Prism which is written and performed by Helen Norton and Jonathan White and takes place on Thursday, September 7th Sept at 8pm.

The show centres around two minor characters from The Importance of Being Earnest who are up to their necks in something else. A country rector and a governess, models of Victorian propriety in public. But in private? This is the play behind the play: a tale of blackmail, false identity and money.

The Humours of Bandon is written and performed by Margaret McAuliffe and presented by Fishamble on Thursday, September 14th at 8pm.

This is a coming of age story about the blood, sweat, tears and passion of those in pursuit of Irish dancing perfection.

Down and Out in Paris and Lond is an adaption of George Orwell’s classic adapted and performed by Phelim Drew. It will take place on Thursday, September 28th at 8pm.

Other productions include Silent, the Oliver award winning show written and performed by Pat Kinveane on Thursday, November 9th at 8pm, BOOM? by Isobel Mahon on Saturday, November 11th at 8pm. Star of the Sea is adapted from the novel by Joseph O ‘ Connor and is presented by Moonfish Theatre on Thursday, November 16th at 8pm.
