How to solve flooding issues in Drogheda?

-

A MAJOR gully cleaning operation is needed around Drogheda after a number of vehicles became stuck in flood waters last week.

Areas at the Haymarket and the bus depot were badly hit, sparking Cllr Tommy Byrne to request the council to step in. He has asked them to clean all gullies and drains throughout the town.

‘In fairness to Louth County Council I requested they clean the drains and gullies on the North Quay in June this year (pictured) which they were very quick to respond to after local traders were hit by spot flooding due to the blocked drains one weekend,’ he stated

However, there is a bigger problem and he states that ‘Mary Street was like a river’ in August.

‘For example, there is a constant pool of water outside the gates of St Peter’s Cemetery due to a blocked drain which is hazardous to pedestrians and those visiting the cemetery,’ he stated.
