Caroline Garry created history in Lourdes Hospital

-

A GREAT little story from 1970 and a first for Drogheda girl Caroline Garry.

It was First Holy Communion time and for Caroline, it was an extra-special occasion.

Caroline, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Garry of 48 Windmill Road, had been confined to bed at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital with a leg ailment for the previous two months.

When the matron on the fifth floor, Sister Noele, heard that Caroline was due to receive her First Communion on Corpus Christi, she went ahead with the arrangements.

Caroline thus became the first child ever to receive her First Holy Communion at the hospital.

A special 11am mass was celebrated by Rev P Larkin and her family, including sisters, Sharon and Pauline and brother, David, and friends came along.

After the mass, all the other kids on the Fifth Floor joined in and her school pals even came along.
