Sonairte shuts after 30 years

LOCALS, families and supporters gathered at the Sonairte Ecology Centre in Laytown for the final time last Friday. The announcement last week that the complex, which was established in 1988, would be closing permanently came as a huge shock to the local community. It is understood that spiralling insurance costs is the reason for the closure as the costs increased 300% over the past year.

The ten-acre site has been a fixture in the local area for decades, promoting environmental awareness and sustainable living.
