Matthew’s tattoo on TV

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

A Drogheda man became an unintentional TV star last week after getting a tattoo live on air on Good Morning Britain while on holiday in Magaluf.

Matthew Nolan visited tattoo parlour Sorry Mom Tattoo last week in Magaluff on the same night that a cameracrew from the popular British morning show were filming young people getting tattoo and decided to interview him as he prepared to get his new ink.

‘I’m getting ‘despacito’ on my foot,’ he told reporter Katie Rickett.

When it was suggested that he might not like Despacito next year, Matthew replied: ‘Maybe not, but I’ll look back and I’ll say ‘despacito’.’

Katie then asked how much alcohol he’d had that night and the youngster admitted: ‘I’ve had a couple of drinks. Oh my goodness.’

But the story didn’t end there as Good Morning Britain later invited Matthew onto the show to reveal the news of his tattoo to his mother on live television.

They got the local man’s mother, Geraldine Nolan, on the phone and asked her what she thought of his new body art.

Presenter Richard Madeley announced: ‘Your Mum is on the phone to us now from County Louth in Ireland.’

Luckily, his Mum reacted very well to the news and said she was happy Matthew had been ‘ cautious’ and got the tattoo on his foot as opposed to anywhere more obvious.

‘Matthew is such a Justin Bieber anyway so no surprise with his choice of tattoo. He’s also been quite clever getting it in an area like down below there on the foot in case I would have changed the locks on the doors maybe this morning or when he returns home,’ she said.

Geraldine said Matthew is ‘still welcome back home’ in spite of his high jinks and said she took the news in good fun.

‘I just laughed and took it in great fun. There are worse things happening in the world so I’m still proud of him and I still love him,’ she said.
