Ray McGuigan interested top English sides

-

A GREAT story from the past about former Drogheda Utd star Ray McGuigan.

It was reported in 1975 that Bristol City were interested in the talented defender, then the Drogheda captain.

Drogheda were playing Limerick at the Stadium and two more representatives came along, Mr. Andy Beattie, the assistant manager of Notts County and Mr. Jim Emery, Sheffield Wednesday’s Irish scout.

Mr. Emery stated: “My club is on the look-out for a back four left side player and McGuigan might just fit the bill. I was impressed by him in the first half, but then the Drogheda team manager, John Cowan, switched him to the attack during the second half. 1 intend to have another look at McGuigan and I hope he only plays in the defence for the full match.

Mr. Beattie was also impressed by the player.
