99 NEW DONORS GIVE BLOOD
IBTS LAUNCHES #MISSINGTYPE
AN incredible 99 new donors attended the recent blood donation clinic in Drogheda recently.
A total of 519 donors attended the clinic, which took place in St Mary’s Parish Primary School at Bryanstown and the figures shows that 99 first time donors and 17 former donors attended the clinic. The new Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) campaign #MissingType was also promoted at the event.
The IBTS is taking part in a global initiative with blood donor organisations across 21 countries to highlight an almost 30% international drop in people becoming blood donors compared to a decade ago. The campaign, which runs throughout August, brings together 25 blood services from 21 countries covering one billion of the World’s population who are each calling for new donors to ensure blood donation for future donations. Numerous organisations and companies across Ireland are dropping AB & O from their logos to support the IBTS in highlighting what it is like when these types are missing.
The campaign is obviously proving successful as close to 100 new donors were in attendance at the Drogheda clinic.
The organisers expressed a special thank you to St Mary’s Primary School for facilitating them, to Floorstyle who helped advertise the clinic and to local voluntary organiser Ann Marie Beirth and the Drogheda Red Cross Unit for their assistance.
They also extended a special thank you to Rob and Emma Gilbey for their support and Facebook presence and John Healy for the additional support he provided
