Rita bakes her way to success in National Brown Bread Baking Comp

A Portuguse woman with a knack for making brown bread will represent Louth in the semi-finals of the National Brown Bread Baking Competitio­n at the National Ploughing Championsh­ips in Offaly in September.

Rita Alves, who lives in Drogheda with her husband Gerry Bailey, is a co-founder of The Crafty Rock craft shop in Blackrock, emerged a winner at the regional final which took place in An Grianán in Termonfeck­in last Thursday. Four winners from each region will qualify to compete in the semi-finals at the National Ploughing Championsh­ips in September. The contestant­s placed first and second in each heat will qualify for the final on Thursday September 21in the Aldi Tent at the National Ploughing Championsh­ips 2017.
