Walking for charity
The Duleek Bellewstwon Ladies GFC held a sponsored 5km walk in Bellewstown recently to raise money for much needed equipment and the day to day running of the club.
Those who took part in th walk ranged from the Acorn u8 group right up to the adult players.
‘ The walk was a great success, it was an opportunity for younger players to meet with the older players to see what they could aspire to and it was also a fantastic opportunity to meet with Kate and Orla Byrne who are on the Meath County team,’ said Club Secretary Edel Gavin. ‘It was fantastic to have Kate and Orla there, they had the Leinster cup with them and they are now through to the All Ireland Semi Finals with the Meath team. All our underage players were really excited to meet their heroes and they all got an opportunity to hold the cup and imagine what it would be like to win it.’
The club is currently thriving and having previously been amalgamated with St Pat’s in Stamullen because of a lack of numbers, last year the club were able to field a full team in their own right and hope to continue this in the future.
‘Because we have such large numbers in our minor groups we hope to be able to keep feeding into our adult team so we don’t end up in that situation again,’ said Edel. ‘We were delighted with how the walk went and we had refreshments afterwards for everyone.’
