DREADNOTS ST MARYS 3-9 1-11

DREADNOTS moved back to the top of the Division 1 table thanks to four-point victory over St Marys at Clogherhead on Sunday evening.

The Ardee men went into the game hoping to preserve their lead in table but it was the Dreadnots who proved too strong with three first half goals providing the foundation for their win.

With just one game remaining both teams are now certain to contest the Cardinal O’Donnell Cup semi-final.

The Clogherhead men made the most of their goal-scoring chances in the first half as Paraic Smith (2) and Dermot Campbell rattled the net to put their side in command.

The Marys were enjoying a good share of possession but were restricted to taking their point over the opening 30 minutes. However, with Ronan Carroll and Daire McConnon among those on target, they had cut the gap to 3-3 to 0-7 at the break.

Conor Keenan raised the green flag for the Ardee men early in the second half to give them renewed hope. However, they were unable to bridge the gap as Liam Shevlin and Smith weighed in with points to ensure that the Dreadnots held out for victory.
