ST MOCHTAS NAOMH FIONNBARRA 1-15 1-13

NAOMH Fionnbarra were beaten in Round 10 of the Division 2 League by St. Mochtas in a hardfought game at Louth Village on Saturday evening.

Both sides traded early scores to leave the score 0-2 apiece after five minutes, William Woods and Bernard Osborne the Togher scorers while Declan Byrne got St Mochtas up and running.

St. Mochtas struck the first decisive blow with a well-worked goal from teenager Gerry Garland to take a three point lead.

The teams then traded points before a goal from William Woods had the teams level at 1-8 apiece at half time.

The Finbarrs made the brighter start to the second half and a couple of points from William Woods had the Togher men two points to the good.

The Mochtas clawed back the deficit to level the game and then pushed on with points from Gareth O’Reilly and Gavin Breen.

The Ballygassan side were denied by the woodwork on two occasions as the Mochtas edged two points clear entering the dying moments.

Darren McConnon reduced the gap to one but the Barrs could not get the equaliser and then at the other end Darren McMahon cut through the Togher defence to score the insurance point which ensured victory for the men from Louth Village.
