O RAGHALLAIGHS ST FECHINS 2-14 1-13

O Raghallaighs kept alive their play-off hopes with a hard-fought win over the Fechins on Saturday evening. The win all but ended the Fechins hopes of reaching the play-offs while the O Raghallaighs will travel to local rivals the Plunketts next week still in with a shout of finishing fourth.

The Fechins got off to a bright start with Ronan Holcroft in particular causing problems for the O Raghallaighs defence early on. The Fechins built up a five-point lead but the home side finished the half strongly with points from Eoin Moore, Ben Rogan and Eoin Morrison leaving the half time scoreboard reading 0-10 to 0-8 in favour of the visitors.

O Raghallaighs got their noses in front for the first time with an excellent goal from midfielder Eoin Moore but the Fechins refused to lie down and they drew level with 15 minutes remaining thanks to a well struck Ronan Holcroft penalty.

In a tense finale the O Raghallaighs scored a crucial second goal as Jack Carr took a Barry Flanagan pass in his stride before finding the corner of the net to put his team in control. Ben Rogan’s fourth point of the game put the game late on as the O Raghallaighs ensured their promotion hopes remain alive.

O RAGHALLAIGHS: Joe Flanagan; Tomás Callan, Stephen Murphy, Ciaran Brassil; James Moonan, Jack Carr 1-0, Alan Doyle; Robert Mulroy, Eoin Moore 1-2; Rory Moore 0-2, Ben Rogan 0-4, Eoin Morrison 0-1; Chris Smyth, Olan Walshe, Barry Flanagan 0-4. Sub: Damien Boyle 0-1 for O Walshe.
