Youths move up with league leaders

DROGHEDA United climbed to third in the SSE Airtricity U-19 Northern Division table following this win over mid-table Shelbourne at the AUL Grounds last Saturday.
With Nathan Seery, Kyle Molloy, Craig Darcy, Lee Partridge and Sean Tunney all unavailable, this was another resilient performance from the Drogs and they took the lead on 25 minutes.
Conor Grogan made a good break on the left, linking up with Brian Cabraley, and he teed up Stephen Meaney who volleyed to the corner of the net from the the quicker of the two teams and were comfortably ahead after goals in the second and 16th minutes.
Drogheda had an opportunity to pull a goal back in the 20 minutes when Sean Buchanan’s long-range edge of the box.
Dylan Sweeney then made a great penalty save to keep the Boynesiders in front and five minutes before half-time Mark Doyle (pictured right) doubled the lead when he headed home at the back post after a wellworked free kick.
With that two-goal cushion Drogheda looked comfortable

throughout the second half and d Shelbourne’s goal didn’t arrive e until the 90th minute after they were awarded a second penalty kick.
