GORMANSTON FOOTPATH

The construction of a new section of a public footpath from Gormanston College to Gormanston Cross is continuing at pace, however with school children and students returning to local schools from later on this week following the summer break, it looks as though work may have to continue even at a faster pace if the footpath is to be ready in time! With the funding already having been allocated for this particular project some months ago, it is amazing why this work did`nt begin until we were already into the month of August!

KNOW YOUR PARISH.

I came across the following and interesting article in the pages of the Lancashire Post Newspaper, dated Saturday March 8th 1930. `A young boy who was attending sheep between Gormanstown and Ben Head, near Drogheda, yesterday, met a riderless horse and some few minutes later he discovered a young woman lying in an unconscious state on the sand dunes. The boy ran to the nearest house to summon help and the unconscious woman was then recognised to be Mrs. Henry Jameson, the Lady of nearby Delvin Lodge in Gormanstown. Mrs. Jameson was removed from the sand dunes to her home and it was then discovered that she had sustained a broken leg in the fall from her horse and she was removed to a hospital in Dublin for further treatment. It was surmised that Mrs. Jameson, who is a member of the Louth Hunt, was out taking a morning canter along the sand dunes at Gormanstown when her horse stumbled and threw her heavily to the ground`.
