Local woman in Venus symbol skydive
LOCAL Woman Lorraine Wilton was one of 11 women who made the Irish record book when they took to the skies to perform a two point sequential formation skydive.
Lorraine, from the Platin Road in Drogheda, first became involved in skydiving back in 2012.
‘Doing a skydive was something that was always on my bucketlist,’ she explained. ‘A friend called me up and asked if I’d ben interested in doing a charity jump for Barretstown. I said yes and that was it, as soon as I did the first dive I was hooked.’
Five years on, Lorraine was one of 11 women who came together to take part in the biggest all female sequential formation dive ever to take place in Ireland.
‘It was such a fantastic experience,’ she said. ‘ There was a real sense of women coming together. It was just an amazing feeling on the day. We did a couple of test runs and then on the fourth attempt they said this is it, we’re going for the record.
‘We formed one shape, made a turn and then made the venus shape. It was just lovely, it’s so unusual to have so many for it because it’s such a male dominated sport. We had one lade who travelled over from the UK for it. Paul Brady did the camerawork for us, he did a fantastic job, and Ronan Whelan was our coach on the day.’
The women undertook the jump at the Irish Parachute Club.
