Gaels edge Dreadnots to set up last-four re-match

-

DUNDALK GAELS DREADNOTS 0-10 0-8

DUNDALK Gaels edged home against the Dreadnots in the final league game of the season with the result ensuring that the teams will now meet again in the Cardinal O’Donnell Cup semi-final.

The Clogherhead side went into the game knowing that victory would see them finish top of the table but as a result of this two-point defeat, the reigning champions ended up in third place, a point behind the Dundalk men.

With both sides already guaranteed a semi-final place, this encounter proved to be a relatively cagey affair with both teams making a number of chances as they were mindful not to show their hand with crucial championship games coming up.

In a game where the Gaels had seven different scorers, they were in fine form in the opening half which ended with them holding a 0-8 to 0-4.

The second half saw the Dreadnots fight back but despite the Gaels adding just two points to their tally it was enough to secure victory. The Clogherhead men didn’t help their cause by kicking a total of 13 wides in the second half and will be hoping for an improvement the next time the sides meet. DUNDALK GAELS: Michael Lambert; Oisin Murray, Jamie Faulkner, Daire O’Callaghan; David McComish 0-1, Derek Crilly 0-1, David Maloney 0-2; James Stewart, Sean McCann; Niall Hearty 0-1, Jason Clarke 0-1, Gerard Fee; Eanna McArdle 0-1, Barry Watters, Gerard McSorley 0-3.
