Slane hope it’s third time lucky

-

SLANE TRIM 1-12 0-9

SLANE qualified for the last four of the Junior B Championship for the third successive year following this quarter-final win at Skryne last Wednesday evening.

The victory set up a clash with Kilbride this Saturday, and provides them with an opportunity to gain revenge for the recent defeat by the same opposition in the group stages.

The Slane men started slowly and squandered a few early chances as Trim notched the opening two points, but a point from Eanna Mooney eventually had Slane off the mark and the sides were level following an Alan Harding point.

Slane were beginning to gain the upper hand at that stage and they pressed home that superiority with a goal from Tommy Macken. Macken, Barry Carolan and Mooney added further points before the end of the half as Slane enjoyed a 1-5 to 0-4 interval lead.

The winners strengthened their grip on proceedings on the restart with further points from Alan Harding, Macken and Mooney. Trim responded with two points of their own before Harding kept Slane firmly on track with two further scores.

Trim eventually got the lead back to four points and also went close to finding the net, but Slane made certain of the win with late points from Mooney and Jim Marry.

The Slane club would like to wish Podge McGowan a speedy recovery from his cruciate injury. SLANE: Darren Berrill; Shane Harding, Willie Clarke, Aaron Lane; Rory Finnegan, Ultan McAdam, Damien Carolan; Eoin Gibbs, Jim Marry 0-1; Eoin Feeley, Barry Carolan 0-1, Eanna Mooney 0-4; Alan Harding 0-4, Tommy Macken 1-2, Dermot Lynch. Subs: Danny Carolan for Lynch, Matt Tully for Finnegan.
