Rookie Lauren on podium

A BIG haul of medals of every colour was the prize for members of Boyne AC who took part in Ardee & District AC’s ever-popular Open Sports Day.

In the girls events Lauren Faulkner made her race debut in the Under-8 60m, finishing in a fine second place, while Chloe Cooney and Shruti Sprasad finished second and third respective­ly in the Under-9 sprint.

Sholah Lawrence won the Under-10 race with ease and her feat was matched by Saran Meite and Lily Cummins in the Under-13 and 14 sprint events.

Lauren was back for more with a silver in the 200m race, while Chloe took gold in her 200m, with Shruti just behind in second. Shola made it a double with another win in the 200m.

Eimear Cooney had a great run to finish second in the Under-11 600m and Saran once again took the top spot, this time in the Under-13 600m, with clubmate Eabha Cosgrove just behind in second place.

In the Under-14 600m Anna Faulkner was first across the line and Lily Cummins won silver, while Cliodhna Nolan ran a super Under-16 800m to take silver.

Not to be outdone by the girls, the Boyne AC boys also had a very profitable day, with Eddison Ekhator getting things off to a great start with a win in his Under-8 60m and a silver medal finish in his 200m. Calum Byrne also had a great day, with a win in his 60m and a third-place finish in his 200m race.

The Under-10 boys saw Oliver Carolan take gold in the 80m sprint and turbo javelin, a silver in the 200m and a bronze in the Under-11 long jump, while Alex Robertson took a well-deserved bronze in the 200m race.

Shea O’Donnell contested the Under-11 events and recorded a win in his 600m and a bronze in the sprint, while clubmate Sean Cummins took silver in both his long jump and 600m race.

Killian Ekhator won the Under-12 sprint with ease and took silver in the Under-13 long jump, while Paddy Price finished in a fine second place in his 800m race and also took silver in the turbo javelin. Aaron Fennell threw a huge 31.64m to take gold in the turbo javelin and also took bronze in the long jump.

Neil Culhane made light work of his 800m to take home the gold in the Under-13 race and he also won bronze in his 100m, while Tadgh Everitt Thompson won the Under-19 800m.

Just to make sure no one was left out on the day, the adults’ Fit4Life mile provided for some great entertainm­ent, with the super-speedy husband and wife team of Richie and Catherine Culhane third in their respective races, while club debutant Barbara Carr went round the three-loop course with ease.

The Connor/Mallon 4-mile Road Race takes place on September 17th and registrati­on is now open on www.myrunresul­ts. com. Entry costs €15 - or there is a ‘bring a buddy’ rate of €25. There will be an easy run of the route this Friday and all are welcome, starting from DPL at 7pm.
