Learning a little more about repealing 8th

-

Dear Sir,

Perhaps we should start by explaining the meaning of the title ROSA ; R = Reproductive rights, O = against Oppression. S= Sexism, A =Austerity.

One of the primary aims of ROSA is for a Referendum to repeal the 8th Amendment which relates to Abortion and for the Government to

1. Legislate for a woman’s right to choose. Abortion should be provided through the health service, without cost and shame, for all who need it

In other words Abortion on demand or in my words the planned and deliberate killing of an unborn human being. ROSA are very much pro-choice though the unborn child has little choice in the matter.

2.Banning abortion not only endangers women’s lives and health, but it also serves to restrict women’s freedom, sexual and personal. It’s a human right to have control over your own body

The unborn child again has no right to life. Our Constitution states quiet clearly : The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right. Translated into english If the life of the mother is in danger she should receive whatever medical care is necessary to sustain her life. If as a result of the mother’s treatment the child dies then that death is not deliberate, in real terms an act of nature. If the mother has no chance of living then, in my opinion, the person with a sustainable life should be prioritised. It would appear that ROSA are saying that abortion should be an acceptable method of contraception, unprotected sex, if you get pregnant, abortion.

3.Invest in housing and health services tailored for LGBTQ youth including physical and mental health services for *trans people freely available on the public health service.

So ROSA wants the Government to build homes suitable for Lesbian,Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning individuals. What sort of home is that? How are their needs different to heterosexual. Should we build a block of flats, separate them from society, ghettos.

4. Build a socialist-feminist movement to challenge all oppression and inequality. For a mass movement of women, workers and all the oppressed to challenge capitalism’s rule of the 1% super-rich.

So no men need apply when it comes to fighting oppression and inequality.

5.No to sexism and objectification of women’s bodies; end the social ills of rape culture & violence against women.

What is rape culture? Are they saying that all men are raised to be rapists, that only women suffer violence. I have met women, in my youth, who would put the fear of god into Conor McGregor. Women can and do objectify men, George Clooney, Brad, Poldark, yours truly,Darcy.

I was at college with a wide and varied community of people, some were female, all were people. Some had a sexual.and emotional attraction to people of their own gender. This attraction did not define them. They were ordinary students their orientation did not define them.

ROSA, in my opinion, plays the sexual orientation card . Further information rosa.ie Yours, Gerry Floyd
