SCHOOL BUS PROTEST

It was good to see that the Children and their Parents who are having problems accessing the School Bus to Stackallen School were well supported by Community Members at last weeks protest at Grangegeeth Cross. This School Bus was put on in 1968 to serve the needs of Local Children when their National School, Grangegeeth, was closed down. This is an on-going problem across the country.

Our Young Irish Citizens are entitled to get to school. Some local children have this all important Ticket, while their brothers or sisters may not. What a system! As for Concessionary Tickets, anything that feeds into the education of our Young Citizens should not be considered a concession. It is their entitlement and right to have access to the education system. Remember that was a central tenet of the educational reforms of the 1960’s. If the Law needs to be changed, why cant Oireachtas Eireann sit all night to make the required changes, they did it for the Banks after-all. Rural Ireland needs to fight its corner!

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations and best wishes to An Tabhairneoir is Fearr in Eireann, Tom Mathews, Collon, who celebrated an important birthday last week. Tom has been putting the pints across the bar for the last fifty years and never missed one! Any sign of a party, or does anyone know anything at all?

COMMUNITY ALERT

It’s that time of year again, short daylight hours and long dark evenings and nights. Please call on elderly relatives and neighbours, especially those living alone. See that they have all their needs, food, heat, light and fuel for fires and anything else that they may need. It is often difficult for the elderly to get out and about to get shopping at this time of year, you may be able to help out in this regard. Above all, keep an eye out for those who use the cover of darkness to perpetrate crime, be extra vigilant, as the work of Criminals never ceases, as we know only too well in this District.
