Gardaí investigate firebomb attack at Tredagh View
A HOME in Tredagh View suffered fire and smoke damage following a petrol bomb attack on the property last weekend.
The property was the subject of a burglary alongside the attack when three men entered the apartment and threatened the male resident.
Gardaí said one of the men involved was allegedly carrying a hatchet while a second had a petrol bomb.
The men made threats against the 50-year-old resident of the apartment.
The petrol bomb was then hurled into the bedroom before the three fled the house and made their escape on foot in an unknown direction.
The bed caught fire and there was smoke damage throughout the room as a result of the attack but the owner of the property escaped without injury.
The fire was extinguished after neighbours spotted smoke billowing out the window.
Gardaí in Drogheda are investigating and would like to hear from anyone who may have any information on the three men involved or who spotted anything in the area at the time.
Following a spate of incidents in the local area, local Sinn Féin Councillors are urging the public to attend the upcoming 2017 Joint Policing Committee (JPC) public meeting which will take place on October 9th in The Westcourt Hotel at 7.30pm.
Chairperson of the South Louth JPC Kenneth Flood said: ‘I would encourage every Drogheda and South Louth resident to come along to the public JPC meeting. It is a vitally important meeting as it gives the people in the area the opportunity to put their questions, queries and worries regarding crime and policing to their elected representatives, the local authorities and the gardaí. There will be informative presentations on the night, including one on crime prevention.
Cllr. David Saurin added: ‘ There have been well documented and highlighted cases of ongoing anti-social behaviour in several areas of Drogheda this year. Not least among them is in the Rathmullen Park area where new bollards have been erected to counteract the joy riding that was happening there.’
